SAW is the core IPR. SAW technology can be used to measure torque, temperature, pressure and other distorting forces. The advantages of Transense’s SAW technology over its competitors:

• The system does not require a battery
• It can be remotely interrogated for data without the need for additional electronics
• It is capable of monitoring other parameters not just pressure and temperature
• It is expected to be cheaper and also more reliable

SAW technology is used in the following areas:

• Tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) for passenger cars and trucks
• Torque sensors for electronic power steering (EPAS) and drivetrain
• Industrial sensor uses were revealed by Honeywell, the primary licensee, at Sensor Expo in June 2007
• Michelin , another licensee, introduced the eTireII in 2007 which is a SAW temperature/pressure sensor which can be stuck permanently to any brand of truck tyre and is designed as part of a system for truck fleet maintenance
