Transense Technologies SAW
From The Investor Wiki
[edit] Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW)
SAW is the core IPR. SAW technology can be used to measure torque, temperature, pressure and other distorting forces. The advantages of Transense’s SAW technology over its competitors:
- The system does not require a battery
- It can be remotely interrogated for data without the need for additional electronics
- It is capable of monitoring other parameters not just pressure and temperature
- It is expected to be cheaper and also more reliable
SAW technology is used in the following areas:
- Tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) for passenger cars and trucks
- Torque sensors for electronic power steering (EPAS) and drivetrain
- Industrial sensor uses were revealed by Honeywell, the primary licensee, at Sensor Expo in June 2007
- Michelin , another licensee, introduced the eTireII in 2007 which is a SAW temperature/pressure sensor which can be stuck permanently to any brand of truck tyre and is designed as part of a system for truck fleet maintenance
